The impact of OET

Since the GMC’s decision to approve OET as a way for international doctors to demonstrate their English competence when working in a clinical environment, the number of doctors working with SLC has increased significantly.

We now provide more individuals and recruitment companies than ever before with OET assessment and preparation services, as well as preparation for the IELTS test still preferred by some candidates.

More training courses

Most doctors are taking short one-to-one coaching courses with a test preparation specialist, often in combination with an online course or service, such as Reach OET B Medicine, OET Writing Correction, Reach IELTS 7 Writing, or English for Doctors: Advanced Communication Skills.

Early OET results

The early results from the OET preparation courses in particular since the GMC announcement in February have been very positive with 84% of papers achieving the Grade B required by the GMC and many candidates achieving 4 Grade Bs on their first attempt.

Partnerships with medical recruitment companies

We are also delighted to be working in partnership with a growing number of specialist international doctor recruitment companies, many in conjunction with the international GP recruitment programme.

Our partners now include Medacs Healthcare, Head Medical, DRC Locums, Kings Commercial, Templars Medical and Bespoke Medical Solutions. And our doctor candidates are based all over the world, from the UK to Europe, the Gulf, Africa, India and Pakistan.
