English for Doctors 3rd edition: revised, enhanced, NOCN-endorsed and certificated

SLC is delighted to publish the latest edition of its flagship course, English for Doctors, creating an even better learning experience for our students and those teachers that work with them.

The course has been fully revised, with new inputs, downloads and media. New activities such as interactive recording have been integrated into every unit. This enables learners to record themselves in conversations with patients and then play them back so they and, where appropriate, their teachers can listen and compare with model dialogues.

Each unit now has a full quiz at the end covering a wide range of key language from the different modules within the unit, including communicative interactions, medical terminology and hospital-specific vocabulary. Perfect for progress testing.

Each unit also has self-assessment checklists at the beginning and end for students to reflect on what they have learnt, a downloadable PDF glossary of all the key terms from the unit and links to additional web resources to consolidate and extend learning.

“Writing for such a complex and fast-moving subject as healthcare necessarily involves a commitment to ongoing improvement to reflect what our students are doing outside the classroom. One of the great advantages of publishing online material is that it allows us to add, edit and re-arrange content easily and then re-publish with the click of a button. We’re delighted with the 3rd edition of English for Doctors and trust our many students and their teachers will be too." Virginia Allum, Head of Medical English, SLC

New course accreditation and certification

The 3rd edition of English for Doctors has been evaluated, endorsed and certificated by NOCN Group, a leading UK Awarding Organisation. NOCN Group operates in over 20 different countries, with over 2,000 approved training centres delivering their qualifications and certificates to over 250,000 learners a year.

The course is also accredited by the CPD Standards Office in the UK, awarding 80 Continuing Professional Development points or hours for successful completion. CPDSO works with hundreds of training providers, educational organisations and employers in over 40 countries.

Cutting edge teaching and learning platform

The course is set on SLC’s enhanced teaching and learning platform, powered by Avallain AG, one of the world’s leading software providers for authoring and publishing digital language learning content. Avallain also work with Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Macmillan Education, and National Geographic Learning among many others.

The teaching platform enables teachers to monitor student work, check submissions, set and receive assignments, message and videoconference learners.
