OET: A Key to Medical Residency Programs in Abu Dhabi and Beyond

Written by Carina Morante | Jan 22, 2024

We're delighted to see that the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi has now officially recognized OET as one of the English language requirements for its Medical Residency Program. This decision underscores the ongoing importance of OET in assessing communication skills in global healthcare settings and marks further progress in standardising the use of English in healthcare communication worldwide.

OET, the unique test of healthcare English, is now recognised for international applicants aiming to join the prestigious Abu Dhabi Medical Residency Program. This recognition by the Department of Health Abu Dhabi adds to the test's global relevance and acceptance. OET is already recognised by healthcare authorities across the English-speaking world, as well as Higher Education institutions, healthcare employers and healthcare recruitment companies.

In addition to the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi, other key healthcare authorities in the UAE have also endorsed the OET. The Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA) and the Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) both recognize OET scores, reinforcing its status as an important component for healthcare professionals aiming to establish their careers in the region.

For medical residency programs, the recognition of OET extends to two major hubs in the UAE. In Abu Dhabi, candidates can apply for the Medical Residency Program through the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi, as detailed on their official website (doh.gov.ae). Similarly, in Dubai, the OET is accepted for the Dubai Residency Training Program, managed by the Dubai Health Authority, with more information available at dha.gov.ae.

As a long-established OET Premium Preparation Provider with students from over 80 countries, we’re delighted to see the ongoing expansion of its recognition and look forward to working with candidates applying for residency training in the UAE.
