SLC provide OET Nursing preparation courses to nurses in Kenya

Written by Chris Moore | Sep 16, 2021

On July 29th, the UK and Kenyan governments signed an agreement to enable unemployed nurses and health workers in Kenya to benefit from a special route to work in the UK before returning to work in Kenya’s health sector.

As part of the entry process, health workers need to demonstrate a high level of professional English to ensure they can communicate effectively with colleagues and patients. The most common way to do this is by achieving the NMC’s English language requirements in the OET Nursing test. The test covers the four language skills, with a specific focus on the language of nursing and healthcare.

In partnership with NEU Professionals, UK-based international healthcare recruitment specialists, we are already now working with 50 nurses in Kenya, with many more coming, preparing them to achieve the scores they need in OET Nursing.

Working online allows us to bring expert OET teachers from around the world to teach the nurses wherever they are in Kenya. It also enables us as provide a raft of specialist OET preparation materials and OET test practice created by internationally renowned Nursing English and OET writer, Virginia Allum, and her team.

We already have extensive experience of preparing nurses based overseas having taught groups based in the Philippines, India and across Europe.

We are delighted to be working on this project. The nurses are absolutely delightful and will bring care, support and smiles to patients and their families around the UK.
