October was a busy month here at SLC.
We were delighted to introduce the new SLC OET Progress Promise!
Achieving the required scores to register with the NMC or GMC can be challenging and for many students it takes a long-term commitment. With the Progress Promise, SLC is with candidates every step of the way.
All students with access to Reach OET B already enjoy 4 live group lessons every week given by an OET expert covering everything they need to know about OET.
Now, any candidate that is enrolled with SLC to prepare for OET, whether via Reach OET B self-study, private tuition or on a fully managed programme via their employer, can continue after their course has finished to attend the live lessons until they pass - for free and for as long as they need.
The Progress Promise is perfect for students that don’t pass first time and also for those that want a little extra time after their course ends before booking an exam date.
We welcomed our new OET Lead, Alexia Sporidis.
If you are one of our clients in the NHS or the recruitment sector, you may have already met Alexia over the last few weeks. We would like to take the opportunity to officially welcome her to her new
Alexia is a highly experienced DELTA-qualified English language teacher and teacher trainer and has been one of SLC’s senior teaching staff for a number of years, specialising in preparing students for OET and IELTS. She is now taking the lead on all matters related to our delivery of OET training and will be the main contact point for our clients.
If you are an existing client and want to say hi or you're reading this and thinking about how to support your return to practice programmes or international recruitment programmes, then please get in touch with her.
We continued our work with refugee healthcare professionals.
In addition to the ongoing courses we run with refugee and migrant doctors, nurses, pharmacists and social workers, we presented to two groups on SLC programmes designed to support students in achieving the English language test scores they need to register to work in the UK - an essential step for so many as they resettle here with their families.
The first were a group of NHS Trusts who will be working with new cohorts of refugee nurses arriving in the UK in early 2024. The second was an event organised by the East of England Strategic Migration Partnership around how to best support refugee doctors back into practice. These can be very challenging courses but are among the most rewarding we work on.
We were also delighted to start working with Migration Yorkshire, to provide IELTS and OET preparation programmes to new groups of Hong Kong BN(O) visa holders.
SLC at the Nursing Times Workforce Summit and Awards.
November will be a great month for SLC, we will be returning to the Nursing Times Workforce Summit and Awards, this time in support of our fantastic partner in India, Ebek.
SLC Director Peter Rodway will join Ebek Managing Director Sreekanthan Gobalakrishna to facilitate a roundtable discussion focussing on how to build long-term sustainable recruitment pipelines.
“In this session we will discuss how to transition from short-term recruitment tactics to a sustainable long-term strategy that creates value for everyone involved.
We will draw on practical principles and existing successful models in India and Sri Lanka and discuss how they can be applied to your own international recruitment relationships. I really hope you can join us!” - Peter Rodway
If you are attending the summit please get in touch and secure a seat at the roundtable and workshop.
We are very excited about this and other upcoming developments this November, so stay tuned!
